What drugs are on the beers list?
Anticholinergics, Z-drugs and benzos, sedative-hypnotics, older antipsychotics, certain opioits/painmeds, hypoglycemics, NSAIDs, GI drugs
What AD drug needs to be administered with food?
Galantamine
What are the side effects of the CIs?
GI,CNS, Cardiac, GU. Memantine can cause agitation, insomnia, diarrhea, dizziness, confusion, headache
Does changing rivastigmine tablet to patch help with N/V?
Yes
What can be used for behavioral manifestations of dementia?
risperidone and olanzapine, use quetiapine if comorbid parkinsons or lewy body dementia.
How to treat urge incontinence?
Anticholinergics, Mirabegron, Botulinum toxin A
How to treat BPH?
Tamsulosin - relieves symptoms, orthostatic hypotension and floppy iris syndrome (with cataract surgery)
a-reductase inhibitors - modifies course of disease, pregnancy X risk for high grade prostate tumors
How to treat osteoarthritis?
Oral NSAIDs, Injection into joint of glucocorticoids and hyaluronans, acetaminophen ( no more than 4 G), Glucosamine.
How to treat rheumatoid arthritis?
DMARDs started within 3 months, MTX preferred Alternates: Hydroxychloroquine, sulfasalazine, leflunomide.
Biologic DMARDs 2nd (etanercept, rituximab, etc.)
DO NOT discontinue DMARDs even if patient in remission
