Critical Care Flashcards
Increased SvO2 = what versus decreased?
Increased is lower utilization or increase delivery, low is increase utilization or lower delivery
What is Cardiac Output?
HR X Stroke Volume
What is afterload?
The resistance to flow (systemic vascular resistance)
What is mean arterial pressure?
CO x SVR or SBP + (2XDBP)/3
What is the sepsis bundle?
To be complete in 1 hour: Lactate level, blood cultures (prior to antibiotics), broad spectrum antibiotics after blood cultures, administer 30 mL/kg crystalloid or lactace >4
What is the vasopressor of choice in sepsis?
norepinephrine (vasopressin can be added if needed)
Dopamine is an alternative
Are crystalloids or colloids preferred in sepsis fluid resuscitation?
Crystalloids (lower cost)
Should vasopressors be given via central line?
Yes, they should be
What drugs can be given endotracheal?
Naloxone, Atropine, Epinephrine, Lidocaine
How to reduce shivering in targeted hypothermia?
Sedatives (dexmedetomidine, ketamine), analgesics (meperidine), magnesium, buspirone, neuromuscular blockade (last line).
What happens in blood glucose be during targeted hypothermia?
Hyperglycemia during hypothermia, hypoglycemia during rewarming
Is there a risk of hyperkalemia during rewarming?
YES
