Geometry Flashcards
Adjeaent Angles
Two angles that share the same vertex and have one side in common

Alternate Angles
Pairs of equal angles foremed on opposite sides

Altitude
The height of a geometric figure
Bisect
Divides into two equal parts
Complimetary Angles
Angles that add up to 90º

Supplementary Angles
Angles that add up to 180º

Transversal
A line that crosses or intersects two or more lines

What 3 letters can be found in transversals? How do these help us?
Z, F and C
The “armpits” of Z and F are equal
The “armpits” of C add to 180º

The Interior Angles of a traingle add up to what?
180º
The interior angles of a quadrilateral add to what?
360º
What equation is used when finding the sum of the interior angles in a polygon?
(n-2) x 180
Midpoint
The point that divides a line segment into 2 equal segments
Median
The line segment joining a vertex of a triangle to the midpoint of the opposite side.
What is the equation for Pythatgorean Theorem?
a2+b2=c2
*A AND B ARE THE LENGTH OF THE LEGS AND C IS THE LENGTH OF THE HYPOTENEUSE*
Maximizing Area With A Fixed Perimeter:
When working with 4 sided shapes, what shape will always give you the largest perimeter?
A square
Maximizing Area With a Fixed Perimeter:
When working with a 3 sided shape, what dimesions give the largest shape possible?
Using 2 sides af if the shape were a square and the third side as double that dimesion.
Example: P= 20cm
Side 1: 5cm
Side 2: 5cm
Side 3: 10cm
Maximizing Area With a Fixed Perimeter:
The sides of the rectangle have to be whole numbers. if this isnt possible what do you do?
The minimum perimeter occurs when the length and width are closest in value.
Example: A= Squrare Root Of 144
Length: 12
Height: 6
