Q

List the process of the greenhouse effect

A
  1. radiation emitted by the Sun enters the atmosphere and
    travels towards the Earth’s surface

The Earth absorbs some radiation from the Sun, but longer wavelength radiation is reflected back into the atmosphere

Greenhouse gases absorb some reflected long wavelength radiation before re- radiating it in all directions, including back towards Earth

The temperature at the Earth’s surface increases

Q

What can microclimates be influenced by?

A

Buildings (can warm the area from internal heating)

Shelter (redirect or slow wind speed and direction)

Cloud cover (covers the sun consequently cools down the area)

Surface (colour and material of surface may absorb more heat than others)

Aspect (the rising and setting of the sun in contrast to objects or buildings influencing heat and shade)

Q

What are the 3 types of rainfall and how do they occur

A

Relief
When rain from the atlantic ocean rises up over mountains, turns into clouds and decends and warms

Convectional
When the sun heats the lands, warm air from the lands rises and turns into clouds, these clouds then rain back on the land

Frontal
When warm and cold air meet, the awm air rises and cools, the cold air forms clouds and the clouds bring heavy rain

16
Q

What is a glacier?

A

A glacier is a mass of ice that moves slowly over land.

17
Q

How do glaciers form?

A

When snow piles up and melts

18
Q

What is erosion?

A

Erosion is the process in which sediment is moved.

19
Q

What is deposition?

A

Deposition is the process in which sediments are added to land form.
