Stage 1
High: Birth Rate & Death Rate
Low: Population (stable/slow growth)
Birth Rate: Lack of family planning, need for children to labor
Death Rate: Lack of proper medical care, diet, disease and famine
Examples: NONE
Stage 2
Gradual: Birth Rate (drop)
Rapid: Death Rate (drop), Population (gain)
Birth Rate: Lack of family planning, need for children to labor (like Stage 1)
Death Rate: Better medical care, sanitation and water supply, more children survive infancy
Examples: AFRICAN COUNTRIES
Stage 3
Gradual: Death Rate (drop), Population (gain)
Rapid: Birth Rate (drop)
Birth Rate: Children are less needed, medical care and diet improve (children will survive)
Death rate: Better medical care, sanitation and water supply (same as Stage 2)
Examples: Colombia, Jamaica, India, Mexico
Stage 4
High: Population (stabilises/slow gain)
Low: Birth Rate, Death Rate
Birth Rate: Family planning, women’s societal status, good health, later marriages
Death Rate: Good medical care and food quality
Examples: Australia, France
