Noun (n)
Refer to name/s of a person, place, thing, idea, quality or concept
Pronoun (pn)
Replace nouns/noun phrases, referring to some other element, either stated or not
Verb (v)
Express actions, states or occurrences aka. ‘doing words’
Primary Auxiliary Verb (aux)
Construct grammatical tenses, helping main verb show aspects of tense, time or voice
Modal Auxiliary Verb (mod)
Modify verbs, changing their mode/state in which they exist
Adverb (adv)
Help describe, modify, or qualify verbs, adjectives, other adverbs and whole sentences. Express time, place and manner, cause and effect, and certainty
Adjectives (adj)
Describe nouns by providing extra info
Prepositions (prep)
Express a relationship between a noun and another word, phrase, or element. Followed by noun phrase
Conjunctions (conj)
Allow us to form complete ideas/sentences and demonstrate relationships between words or phrases from the same class
Coordinating Conjunction (conj)
Help place two or more elements side by side in a way that demonstrates equality/equivalence

Subordinating Conjunctions (conj)
Connects and independent clause to a dependent clause (some show cause and effect, some signal relationships of time or place)
e.g. Because, unless, before, whenever, so that, since, until
Determiners (det)
A word placed in from of a noun to clarify it, specify quantity or possession
Indefinite Article (det)
Introduces a general version of a noun (the, a, an)
e.g. AN ostrich would beat A chicken in A race.
Definite Article (det)
Introduces a specific noun (the, a, an)
e.g. We went to THE best restaurant in town.
Quantifier (det)
Indicates how much/little of a noun
e.g. She liked ALL desserts equally.
