Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority
Describe and explain how this stakeholder group can be affected by planning strategies which aim to address problems.
Formed in 2012, the authority combines previous redevelopment authorities that include Midland, Subiaco, East Perth and Armadale.
The authority has also been placed in charge of the Perth City Rail Link, Perth Riverside and Elizabeth Quay developments. These projects aim to encourage accessibility, livability, infilling as well as other elements of Directions2031.
The Authority must maintain design standards with the private sector and create projects that will redefine Perth.. They will need to:
Negotiate with developers and seek investment
Acquire land in some cases
Identify heritage buildings
Attract investment
Deliver new infrastructure
Control land sales and development of projects
Liaise with the community
Discuss the views and attitudes of this stakeholder group in response to planning strategies that address urban problems within Perth(Directions2031)
They are supportive of the main objectives of Directions 2031. The MRA believe there is a need to revitalize urban areas and initiate the construction of activity centers that are mixed land use and transit orientated. In addition they intend to infill urban areas with adequate amenity and provide affordable housing. This need is largely the result of urban sprawl.
