Inner suburbs close to the CBD and Fremantle have increased their status. They have been discovered by many young income types who has redeveloped and gentrified them.
Many new coastal suburbs especially within the North-West corridor have become high status areas e.g. Sorrento

Oldest suburbs in Perth
Many have declining populations, children have left home e.g. Nedlands.
High people of working age population in some of the redeveloped suburbs e.g. Subiaco, East Perth because they have high incomes/high house prices, they are professionals who work in the CBD, they like the access to restaurants etc.
High % of elderly because they have lived there a long time, well established facilities e.g. public transport, hospitals
Age-sex structure of Perth in Outer Sector
Have rapidly growing populations because new suburbs being built there.
High % of young married couples with children - cheap housing prices, houses are new and modern, more space for children.
Low % of elderly - population has not aged yet, facilities for elderly not good

Loss of population - subdivision of locks has increased densities. Urban renewal e.g. East Perth project has revitalized these inner suburbs, increased population.

Declining % of children - Reduction of facilities for the young e.g. closing schools.

Total population has increased hugely - huge increase in facilities(schools, shops), amenities and jobs.

Distribution pattern of Elderly(65+)
Dominates older suburbs e.g. Nedlands, an area forming an almost unbroken circle with 10km radius around CBD.
Also suburbs around Rockingham and Mandurah, Midland/Guildford.
Inner suburbs are old - contain many of the original settlers who have lived and grown old there.
Well established facilities attract older people.
Retirees attracted to Rockingham, Mandurah.
Distribution pattern of children(0-14)
High % live in newer outer suburbs e.g. Joondalup. The newer the suburb, the more kids it will have.
Cheap house prices attract young families, inner areas too expensive.
Big modern houses.
Plenty of open space for kids.
New business parks and industrial estates provide jobs.
Sex structure of Perth
More females than males in Perth. Especially in inner established areas.
Inner suburbs show either a male or female dominance:
Female-dominated: peppermint Grove, Nedlands. Older suburbs where women have outlived their spouses.
Male-dominated: Inner Fremantle and suburbs immediately around the CBD. High % of immigrants whom are male, high % of male-orientated jobs e.g. port jobs in Fremantle.
Ethnic Patterns in Perth
People born in Southern Europe(Italy): Most live in older suburbs because more emigrated in the 50s and 60s. Inner city suburbs(North Perth), Fremantle suburbs(fishing background), Rural urban fringe(Balcatta, market gardening and viticulture).
People born in the Uk, Ireland and New Zealand: No language barrier so widely scattered group, Rockingham area(jobs in Kwinana), Outer suburbs(Armadale, attraction to relatively cheap land for housing).
People born in South-East Asia: Cheaper Northern suburbs(Girraween), Inner suburbs(Highgate, originally had cheap accommodation and a cultural enclave of Vietnamese formed), Crawley(UWA) and Churchlands due to high status areas near good education
