Genetic Inheritence Flashcards
Complete Dominance
1 dominant allele masks the recessive
Codominance
2 codominant alleles can both be present and expressed (ABO blood types)
Incomplete Dominance
heterozygote is a mix of the alleles (gradient of phenotypes)
Penetrance
% of individuals with a given phenotype who display the associate phenotype
Expressivity
severity of a phenotype
Autosomal Inheritance
no sex bias, trait inherited through autosomes
Autosomal Dominant Inheritance
a person who inherits just 1 copy of dominant allele will express dominant phenotype
Autosomal Recessive Inheritance
a person must inherit both recessive copies, can skip generations, marked by carriers
X-Linked Recessive Inheritance
expressed in females who have the recessive allele present on both x chromosomes, expressed in males if they only have 1
Law of Segregation
allele pairs segregate randomly from each other into gametes during meiosis
Law of Independent Assortment
alleles from separate traits are independently inherited
Law of Dominance
recessive alleles are masked
