Cytoskeleton Components Flashcards
Cytoskeleton
Network of fibers in cells
What are microfilaments composed of?
2 strands of actin polymers (double stranded)
What are microfilaments involved in?
cell movement
What role do microfilaments play in replication?
contribute to formation of cleavage furrow
Which cytoskeleton component interacts with myosin to initiate muscle contractions?
microfilaments
What are microtubules composed of?
alpha and beta- tubulin dimers
What are microtubules involved in?
maintain structural integrity, act as protein highways for kinesin and dyesin
What role do microtubules play in replication?
form mitotic spindles to pull apart chromosomes at the centromere
Which cytoskeleton components have polarity?
microtubules, grow at + end, shrink at - end
What are intermediate filaments involved in?
provide structural support, cell to cell adhesion processes
