Genetic explanations Flashcards
What did Coccaro et al (1997) twin studies show?
Comapred MZ versus DZ twin pairs. Studied Agressive behaviours of twins. MZ twins were found to have a 50% concordance rate wheras DZ twins were only 19%. Supports genetics in aggression.
Explain the role of the MAOA gene
Produces an enzyme that is responsible for the cycle in which seretonin is produced of and metabolised of seretonin. Less active MAOA gene means seretonin activity levels are lower, low seretonin activity leads to increased aggression.
Explain the dutch family in relation to aggression
28 males of a dutch family, who were reguraly involved in violent criminal activities. Research found men had abnormally low levels of MAOA in their brains.
