What is the difference between blue and magenta airports?
Blue airports have a control tower, magenta do not.
What is the difference between RDU and BUY ?
BUYs runways are less than 8,069’ and RDU’s are longer than 8,069’.
What do the flags represent?
ATC reporting points.
What is a TRSA (the solid gray line around Wilmington)?
A class D airport with optional radar services. Class D that can act like class C.
What is the solid blue line with the dots in it?
Wildlife area. You can not fly below 2000’ AGL.
What are the long dotted magenta lines?
Isogonic lines, the difference between magnetic north and true north.
What are the blue numbers 27 ?
Maximum elevation figures, fly above this altitude and you won’t hit terrain or obstructions.

Rotating beacon.
What color is the beacon at a civil land airport?
Green and white.
What color is the beacon at a military airport?
Green and two whites.
What do the tick marks around an airport on the sectional mean?

What is the difference between BUY and 4W7 and Kimrey ?
Public hard surface ,public grass, private grass.
What does the star mean at the end of the control tower frequency?
Part time use.
