Commercial Pilot Questions Flashcards
What can you do as a commercial pilot?
Sightseeing (requires LOA and Drug/Alcohol testing), photography, banner towing, power line or pipeline patrol, flight instruction (with CFI certificate), or work for a commercial operator or a private owner. You can fly for a company like Causey Aviation (Part 135 charter).
Can you buy or rent a plane and charge people to fly with you?
No. That would be holding out
If someone owns a plane and wants to hire you to fly it, is that ok?
Yes.
For how many people can you do that?
There is no limit, you must be willing to turn someone down. You can not hold yourself out for hire, meaning you can’t be willing to fly for anyone, anytime, anywhere.
Without an instrument rating, what limitations are on your commercial certificate?
No cross countries or night flights for hire with passengers.
Do you have to log all flight time?
Only what is required to keep you current.
What class medical do you need to act as a commercial pilot? To take the check ride?
Second class. Third class or Basic Med.
How does a turbo charger work?
Exhaust gases drive a turbine which increases the pressure of the air entering the intake manifold. They must be allowed to cool down after flight (usually a few minutes). A turbo “stops working” at what is known as absolute altitude.
