General Information Flashcards
What is Heredity
The transmission of traits from one generation to the next
What is Variation
any difference between cells, individual organisms, caused by genetic differences
Genetics
Is the study of heredity and variation (and is what Mr Johnson thinks the unit shud be called)
What are Gametes?
Organisms reproductive cells. Referred to as sex cells. An example is a sperm or an egg
What is Asexual reproduction?
A single sole parent reproduces and transmits all its genes to its offspring without the fusion of gametes
Result of Asexual Reproductions
Clones, look exactly the same, no variations since it’s not crossbreeding with someone other type or organism.
What is Sexual Reproduction?
When two organisms pass of their genes to offsprings resulting in variation, an example is two different kids with similar traits but it’s not exactly the same like asexual reproduction.
