They aren’t powered. They’re photoluminescent tape. The cabin lights must be on for 15 minutes to provide enough energy to illuminate them on the first flight of the day.
What are the positions of the overhead panel emergency lights switch and what happens as each is selected?
OFF - Lights will not receive power and the dedicated batteries powering them will not be recharged (used in ground safe mode).
ARM - Dedicated batteries receive charge, lights illuminate in an electrical emergency.
ON - Lights are switched on.
The FA can override the pilot selection from the cabin panel.
