Electrical System Flashcards
What components are connected to Hot Bus 2.
R Fire bottle.

R Fuel Shutoff Valve.
R Hydraulic Shutoff Valve.
What components are connected to Hot Bus 1.
L Fire bottle. Pressure Refuelling Connector Panel. ELT L Fuel Shutoff Valve. L Hydraulic Shutoff Valve.
What happens if the ‘Essential Power’ is pressed?
The aircraft is forced into electrical emergency mode.
This button is there in case the EDL fails to put the aircraft into electrical emergency mode.
If pressed, only the ISIS, EICAS, RMU 1 and 2 will be powered.
Give an example of some components that are AC driven.
FOQA.
EGPWS/Windshear.
ACARS printer.
What are the three power sources available to start the APU?
Battery 2.
GPU.
Battery 2 assisted by main generators.
How are the batteries cooled?
RAM air.
What parameter would you look for to determine if you can start the APU on the ground?
Battery 2 must be 22V if starting with battery 2, or 19V if starting with GPU.
Electrical page on MFD.
What type of batteries are installed the EMB-145 and what are they rated to?
Batteries 1 and 2 are 24V 44ah NiCad batteries, and there is an additional lead acid 24V backup battery.
Approximately how long will electrical power be supplied from the two batteries?
12 to 14 minutes on the ground prior to start (because the batteries are supplying power to all systems).
40 minutes in the air because the EDL has shed the appropriate load.
How are the batteries recharged?
The generators.
The GPU cannot recharge the batteries.
What is the power rating of a Ground Power Unit (GPU)?
28 volts and 1600 amps.
What happens when the ‘Shed Buses’ switch is set to override?
On the ground the shed buses are forced closed. Taxi light, flash lights and cabin services.
In the air, the shed buses are forced closed unless the EDL logic prevents (i.e. only three generators available).
What is a hot bus?
A bus that is connected directly to the battery. All components connected to the hot bus do not need a cockpit switch to be switched on.
What is Electrical Distribution Logic (EDL) and what is it’s function?
It is software, housed in the back up lead acid battery, that controls the entire electrical system (the brains of the electrical system).
It’s primary goal is to provide two seperate electrical networks with two generators (one primary, and one back up) on each.
It’s secondary goal is to provide one electrical network with two generators (one primary, and one backup).
What does the number on a circuit breaker represent?
The limiting current (amps) that will trip the breaker.
