Gene Mapping Flashcards
How do you measure the distance between two genes?
Recombination frequency
Why the VNTR are infrequently used for current genetic mapping?
Because they tend to cluster near the ends of chromosomes
What is a haplotype?
Combination of alleles on a single chromosome
What relation can you establish between a marker and studied allele if said that they recombine less than 50% of the time?
The marker and the allele are linkage
What is the LOD score?
Combined data from different families with the same disease ▶️ compares the probability that de data obtained is a result of a linkage with a certain value recombination frequency (teta) vs probability that the data resulted from a no linkage (gene and marker unlinkage) (teta=50%) and that the data were obtain by chance
What is the utility of LOD score?
- location of a disease-causing gene
- genetic testing (marker useful must be less than 1% of recombination with the studied gene)
- identify locus heterogeneity
