How did the feminist movement change women’s attitude?
Since the 1960s the feminist movement has changed the traditional stereotype of women’s role as a mother and housewife in a patriarchal nuclear family although feminists argue that we have not yet achieved full quality the movement has had considerable success and improvement women’s rights through changes in the law. E.g. equal pay act sex discrimination act improved maternity and flexible working rights and the equality act.

There have been significant changes in the family increased divorce rate increased habitation and fallen marriage increased in loan parent families and smaller families falling birth rate. girls attitude to education as employment rate for working age women in the UK rose from 53% in the 70s to 70% in 2016 women are no longer reliant financially on men so they are more determined that qualifications most learn parent families are headed by women so they have to take on the breadwinner role
What did Beth argue about today’s society?
Argued that today’s society is characterised by risk uncertainty and increased individualism. Our lives are subject to constant change in terms of relationships and work. People have to be more self-sufficient and self reliant in society and women are at the front of this. With rising divorce rates marriage is increasingly associated with risk and uncertainty. Employment is becoming increasingly unstable and there are fewer jobs for life. People are changing jobs and retraining and as a result career path become less predictable.
