MSP members shall present an image of the highest standard, order and professional appearance to the public.
GEN-01 if there are any deficiencies in your appearance what do you do?
Correct any deficiencies in their personal appearance as soon as practical
GEN-01 what are the rules on jewelry?
May only wear the following:
-Watch
-medical bracelet
-Rings
-Necklace worn discreetly undershirt
May not wear:
-Facial or body piercings
-no implants unless licensed medical practitioner says so in under their supervision
- No earrings and uniform, but in plain clothes wear conservative ones
GEN-01 what are the exceptions for personal appearance?
Undercover officers may not adhere to this if approved by the division commander
GEN-01 what do you need to know about hygiene and oral hygiene?
- conform to the Highest personal hygiene standards
-teeth will be clean and free of foreign debris
-Must have the appearance of a full set of teeth
-If you have missing or broken teeth and or loose orthodontics, they shall be replaced or repaired as soon as possible
-No dental oral modifications, unless authorized by a licensed dentist or medical professional procedure requiring under their care.
GEN-01 what are you not allowed to have for oral /dental hygiene?
May not have modifications to include: -tongues, splitting or bifurcation
-Abnormal filing of teeth
-Dental veneers or laminates with bling on them
GEN-01 what do you need to know about cosmetics?
-they shall be subdued and blended to match the natural skin, color and cons
-No false eyelashes or unnaturally colored contact lenses
-No fingernail polish of any color worn in uniform
GEN-01 what do you need to know about hair in uniform?
-Must be clean, neat and well groomed
-not touch the top of the uniform collar shirt at the back when standing with head at normal
-It must not interfere with headgear
-Must not be died, tainted exaggerated, or an unnatural color
-Wigs and hairpieces are OK with regulations
GEM-01 what are the specifications for men with their hair?
Must be tapered block back of the neck and same at the sides, not touching the ears
-sideburns, Shall be, neatly trimmed and rectangular
-Of even with
-And not longer than the midpoint of the tragus of the year
-Faces shall be clean except:
-Undercover with the approval of the unit section commander
-medical condition verified by the MSP state surgeon
-Members with mustaches, beards, or goatee shall not appear in uniform must have clean shaven face
GEN-01 what do you need to know about females hair in uniform?
Hair may extend over, but not below the bottom of the ear, no more than 2 inches forward of the ear
-Conservative, ponytails, braids, hair buns, etc. maybe used secured to the head
-Must be inconspicuous hair aids that blend in with the hair
What is GEN – 01A about?
Tattoos and body modifications
GEN-01A what is the policy on tattoos and body modifications?
-Sworn member of the department should have any tattoo or brand that is considered extremist. this means extremist, philosophies, organizations or activities, which advocate, racial, gender, and or ethnic hatred or intolerance. Advocate illegal discrimination, based on race, color, gender, gender, identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, or national origin.
-And must not advocate violence.
GEN-01A in the prohibition of extremist tattoos scars are brands. What three things does this include?
-Indecent
-Sexist
-Racist
GEN-01A where may a member of the MSP not have a tattoo?
-Face,
-neck
-hands
-wrists
-fingertips
What are the exceptions to tattoos that you can see?
-Permanent commitment, bands
-Permanent eyeliner, eyebrows, lipstick, but must be conservative and complements complexion and uniformity
What do you need to know about GEN – 01A for tattoos that was added in 2020?
As of June 22, 2020, NO member shall add any additional tattoos, scars, brands, regardless of size, normally visible while on duty in any authorized uniform.
What can an applicant found to be in violation of GEN – 01A tattoos do in order to become compliant?
If an Applicant is willing to remove a noncompliant tattoo, branding, or body art for an appointment, the application for hire will be suspended until the removal process is complete and reevaluated for compliance.
Prior to an appointment to the Academy and applicant must fill out an SP 802A applicant identification and reporting of tattoos/body art/brands/scarification to report anything under this section and it will be added to their permanent personnel file.
What will be reported on the SP 802A?
-Date the tattoo, body art brand or scarf notification was received
-description and photo of the tattoo, body art and
-The size and location of the tattoo/body art/brand/scarification on the members body that is visible while wearing the department uniform.
What is the definition of an extremist tattoo?
Tattoos scarification to brands, affiliated with depicting or symbolizing, extreme lists, philosophies, organizations or activities. Basically any organizations or activities, which advocate, racial, gender, and or ethnic hatred or intolerance, advocate, create or engage in illegal discrimination, based on race color, gender, gender, identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, or national origin, and or violence, or other unlawful means of depriving individuals of rights. Just remember, no indecent, sexist, racist brands, or scars of tattoos
What is the definition of indecent when it comes to tattoos?
Tattoos and scars or brands that are grossly offensive to modesty, decency, or Propriete. Shot the moral sense by being vulgar, filthy or disgusting in nature.
What’s the definition of a sexist tattoo?
Tattoos scars of brands that advocate, a philosophy, that the grades or demeans a person, based on gender or gender identity, but may not meet the same definition of indecent
What’s the definition of a racist tattoo?
Any tattoo, scar or brand advocate, a philosophy, that grades or demeans a person based on race, ethnicity, or national origin.
What is not included in a face neck or hand tattoo?
-Permanent commitment, bands on hand, and
- Permanent, eyeliner, eyebrows or lipstick. If the permanent color is conservative, and complements the complexion of the uniform.
What is the date where no sworn member shall add any additional tattoo car, scar or brand regardless of size, normally visible while on duty in any authorized uniform or attire?
Effective June 22, 2020. No additional tattoo is allowed that could be seen while on duty.
If an applicant removes the tattoo that violates this order, will they be able to go into the Academy?
Just because an applicant removes, the tattoo doesn’t automatically mean they will be selected for the Academy. If it was a tattoo that violated this order, they may have to explain why they had it or they might not be able to go if they had such tattoos that were against Policy.
What happens prior to the appointment of the Academy for any applicant who has a tattoo bodyguard brand scar visible?
Normally visible tattoos while on duty in any authorized uniform attire shall submit to the division of administrative services/human resources section for inclusion in the applicants personal file. An SP 802 a applicant identification reporting of tattoo form will be filled out and added to the permanent file.
What do you need to know about body modifications while in uniform?
The use of gold, platinum or other dental veneers or caps for the purpose of ornamentation while in duties prohibited. Teeth will natural capped or veneer, shall not be orated with designs, jewels, or initials. Body piercings of the face, tongue, lip, nose, brow by any store, member of the department is prohibited for wearing them in uniform.the exception is undercover assignments. They may have body piercings when authorized by their division commander.
What does GEN-02 have to do with?

What is the policy of uniforms?
-members shall maintain the highest possible standard of their personal parents in uniform
-member shall be issued required uniforms and equipment and shall be issued to members section/unit commanders and an inventory of each item shall be maintained
-sworn required to form work in civilian clothing shall receive receive an annual clothing allowance and accordance with the CBA 5A
-New state police cadets shall wear issued uniform and according with TRN – 05 state police cadet program.
-upon separation from service member shall return issued uniforms and equipment to the supply section
What do you need to know about uniforms and Cruiser operation?
-members are required to wear authorized uniform while operating department equipment. This also includes appropriate business attire, or attire specifically related to their position.
What do you need to know about members and their badge while operating department vehicles?
-member shall display their badge of office while operating vehicles. Only exceptions would be four members assigned to DIS or DHS or where members identity cannot be revealed as part of their assignment.
Who is responsible for members uniform inspections?
-Supervisors are responsible for continuous line inspections to make sure members under the control maintain a professional appearance and correctly wear their uniform
What do you need to know about two or more members gathered in the same location?
All members shall dress alike according to what the senior trooper or OIC is wearing.
What may members not do while they’re in uniform?
-not participate in social functions unless authorized by Division Commander
-where earbuds or headphone devices of any kind
-where unauthorized uniform pieces are parts
-consume alcoholic beverages
-Use tobacco in any form, eat, cigarettes, vapes, chew gum, or have any foreign object protruding from their mouth when they are in the view of the public and or in formation.
What may members never do with their uniform?
-Shall not permit any nonmember to wear any part of the uniform assigned to them
-Member shall not wear any part of the uniform off duty unless authorized to do so
When members uniforms are worn out, damaged, destroyed or do not fit what should members do?
Request new parts from supply
What happens if a member damages or destroys their uniform pieces apart to net negligence or misuse?
-Member must replace the items that they’re on expense
What do you need to know about cleaning and maintaining your uniform?
-boots, shoes, and leather Shall be highly polished
-Shall be cleaned and highly shined
-Clothing shall be clean, stain, free, and pressed
-Necessary alterations repairs may be done through Troop clerk
-whenever an occasion causes deficiencies, impersonal parents uniform or equipment member shell fix them first opportunity they can
What do you need to know about riot gear?
All members shall carry all issued right gear in the trunk of their Cruiser
-OIC at a right gear or disturbance may designate the following items optional:
-neck, tie, clasp, cross strap, name, tag, badge, whistle and chain, gas mask, and or Use of force equipment
What are the dates for summer and winter uniforms?
summer - April 15 through October 14 summer uniform shall be worn
winter uniform- will be worn from October 15 through April 14.
What is one thing you need to know about the winter uniform?
The winter uniform is optional for 30 days before/after the period of October 15 through April 14.
What do you need to know about staff officers uniforms?
Staff officers, while in any uniform shall wear the garrison cover at all times.

What shall not be worn with the class A uniform?
Sunglasses, keepers, and extra handcuffs will not be worn with class a uniform. For designated periods of morning, a black bad shroud will be worn around the badge of the office.
What does the summer field service class B uniform consist of?
-straw campaign cover with the appropriate colored cord
-Short sleeve shirt, top and buttoned, no undergarments or jewelry visible
-Slacks
-Jump boots
-New to this body worn cameras
-Garrison belt
-duty belt with keepers, holster and firearm, OC spray, handcuff case, baton ring, ammunition case, and other authorized equipment
-Sweater is optional tucked into the slacks with badge on left chest, name tag on right chest
-Issued out optional
-No ribbons or metals except service ribbon
-long sleeve shirt or issued sweater is worn, a necktie and tie class shall be worn without the cross strap
What do you need to know about the sweater?
-sweater = no cross strap
What does the winter field class B service uniform consist of?
-Garrison cover worn with the appropriate hat, badge and leather strap, depending on rank
-long sleeve shirt, completely buttoned with necktie in clasp
-Breaches
-field boots
-New to this body worn camera
-Garrison belt
-duty belt with cross trap, keepers, holster, and firearm, handcuff case, club ring, ammunition case, and other authorized equipment
-Cross shall be worn diagonally across the front and back secured directly in front of and behind the holster
-Sweater is optional tucked into the breaches with no cross strap with badge on left chest name tag on
-Issued underwear opt
-black gloves or balaclava optional
-No ribbons or metals except for service rib
-knit caps will never be worn in winter field service class uniforms
What is the Summer field class C service uniform?
-straw camp depending on rank
-Short sleeve super shirt, top button and buttoned no undergarments or jewelry visible or
-armor, skin ballistic vest carrier with short sleeve base shirt, worn underneath, top button unbuttoned, no undergarments or jewelry visible
-Class C slacks
-Jump boots
-New body worn camera
-Garrison belt
-duty belt with keeper, holster and firearm, handcuff case, club ring, ammunition case, other authorized equip
-Sweater is optional tucked in with badge and left chest aim tag on right
-Issued outerwear optional
-No ribbons or metals except service ribbon
-If long sleeve, super shirt or issued sweater is worn a necktie and clasp shall be worn without the cross strap
-armor, skin and long sleeve shirt is worn a necktie tie shall be worn tucked underneath the arms skin without the cross strap
What do you need to know about specialty uniforms?
-when authorized to do so by the division commander, members may wear special uniforms. Only members who are performing a specialized function shall wear specialty uniforms. The division commander of standards and training or design may revise A Duty uniform of personal assignment to the Academy.
For straw campaign covers with cord trimmed to appropriate length not nodded what color shall each rank wear?
-Troopers silver badge in silver acorns
-Noncommission, Officer, silver hat, badge and silver acorns
-Commissioned officer, gold hat, badge, and gold acorns
-Commission staff, Garrison, cover with gold hat, badge, gold, Fred, and glossy gold hat band with black leather straps removed
When will badge of office be worn?
-Prominently displayed on the left breast area of outer uniform garment at all times
What kind of head badge shall be worn?
-Head badge shall be worn on all campaign covers, and Garrison covers
What do you need to know about collar insignias?
-worn on summer and winter shirts and the dress blouse only
-Commonwealth ornament on the right hand side
-Troop designation ornament on the left-hand side
-placed 1 inch back from the leading edge of the collar and centered between the top and the bottom
