A police officer jumped on the bonnet of a car to stop their driving away with stolen goods. Used to give definition to grievous (meaning serious)
R v Burstow
D had a relationship with a woman that she ended. He repeatedly called her and sent letters. She suffered serious depression because of this. Ruled that psychological damage can be GBH, must be serious.
R v Dica
D had HIV. He had sex with people and did not tell them that he was positive. They caught HIV. He was convicted of GBH due to biological damage.
R v Brown and Stratton
Stratton father was transitioning. They attacked her and caused multiple minor injuries, ruled that it amounted to one major injury and therefore GBH
R v Bollum
Bollum abused his partners 17 month old baby. He argued injuries were not severe enough for GBH. Judge ruled that age is a factor, be that very old or very young
R v Martin
Martin blocked the exit to a Theater, and then shouted that there was a fire. In the rush to escape, people got injured. Indirectly guilty of GBH due
R v Morrison
Morrison was being perused by police and tried to escape by jumping through a window to resist arrest. However, officer got hold of his shirt and was pulled through too, being cut by glass. GBH through resisting arrest
