Q

how does this law work

A

more temperature = more energy = more collisions = more pressure

If we had a gas in a closed container and we increased the temperature, the molecules would start moving faster because they gained more kinetic energy. Owing to the fact that the molecules have more kinetic energy, more collisions would take place between the molecules and the sides of the container. This increase in the number of collisions would cause a pressure increase.

9
Q

when do we use gay’s law

A

If the temperature is being changed with a subsequent change in pressure but the volume remains constant, then that is Gay-Lussac’s law.
