Autoimmune Inflammation of the Gastric mucosa

  • H Pylori
  • NASAIDs
  • Mucosal ISCHEMIA

What causes the chronic onset of gastritis

A

Inflammation causes epithelial metaplasia
This Mucosal atrophy causes gland loss
If the metaplasia becomes dysplasia gastric cancer can occur

A
  • Decrease SOMATOSTATIN
  • Decrease HCO3
  • Secrete UREASE = UREA TO AMMONIA
  • Increase GASTRIN release

A

Inhibit COX so less prostaglandins so less mucus production

A

Fundus and stomach body affected and causes atrophic gastritis
Parietal cells decrease = Intrinsic factor deficient
Decrease B12 uptake = Pernicious anaemia

A
Remove the cause (alcohol, NSAID.....)
H Pylori = CAP Triple therapy 
H2 antagonist. (Decrease acid)
-Ranitidine and cimetidine
PPI (Decrease acid)
-Lansoprazole and omeprazole
