Gastric Neoplasia I (Gupta/Jackson) Flashcards
What is this?
Hyperplastic Gastric Polyp (don’t think there is any way to tell grossly what type of polyp it is)
What is this?
Fundic Gland Gastric Polyps
What is this?
Gastric Adenoma
What is shown here?
Narrowing of the gastric outlet - due to carcinoma
What is shown in images A and B?
A - maligant ulceration - while you can’t know for sure with out biopsy the heaped up edges suggest malignancy
B - Simple Gastric Ulcer - punched out appearance lowers the risk of it being malignant
What symptoms might this patient be experiencing from this giant ulcer that is probably malingnat?
Anemia
What is the most likely cause of the pathology shown on the right?
Linnitus Plastica - from diffuse gastric adenocarcinoma
What is shown here?
NL gastric mucosa
What is shown in this biospy taken from a lesion in the stomach?
• Key histologic features?
HYPERPLASTIC GASTRIC POLYP
• Also notice mucinous looking cells that are lining the polyp
What gastric pathology is seen here?
• Key features?
Fundic Gland Gastric Polyp
Key Features:
• Cystic Spaces lined with Parietal and Chief cells
(contrast this to the mucinous appearing lining of hyperplastic polyps)
What is shown on the left and right here?
Left: Adenomatous polyp with High N/C, Hyperchromasia, CIgar Shaped nuclei, and fairly NL architecture with few mitotic figures
Right: Normal Tissue
What gastric pathology is seen on the left and right here?
Left: Adenomatous polyp that has higher N/C, Hyperchromasia, Cigar Shaped nuclei
Right: HIGH GRADE adenomatous polyp, characterized by: Budding, Cribiforming, and Architectural Distortion
Gastric Adenocarcinoma
What type of gastric adenocarcinoma is this?
Diffuse Type - Characterized by SIGNET RING CELLS that appear similar to macrophages
**Gross picture shown below
