Cancer of the stomach. Usually adenocarcinoma but can be:

Leiomysarcoma
Stroma, tumours

Genetic and environmental factors
Risk factors
Smoked and processed food - high in salt and nitrates Blood group A H. Pylori Alcohol Smoking Gastric polyps Partial gastroectomy Strophic gastritis Pernicious anaemia
Epidemiology
Common cause of cancer death
Highest incidence is in Japan
6th most common cancer in the UK
Presents at over 50
Symptoms
Asymp early Early satiety Epigastric discomfort Haematemesis, Malena Weight loss Anorexia Nausea/vomiting Dysphagia Metastasis (Ascites and jaundice)
Signs:
May be Normal
Epigastric mass
Virchow node - trossier’s sigh
Sister Mary Joseph Nodule (metastatic nodule at umbilicus)
Kruskenbergs tumour (ovarian metastasis)
Signs of anaemia
Abdo tenderness
Ascites
Investigations
Upper GI endoscopy - biopsy ulcers
Bloods - FBC (anaemia) , LFTs
Endoscopic USS to see lymph node involvement and depth of invasion
Liver US and bone - staging
Laparoscopy to see tumour resection
