Differentiated (intestinal) : caused by H pylori causing chronic gastritis, then metaplasia to look like intestinal cells,
Undifferentiated: CDH1 gene
what type of tumour Is a polyp?
Carcinoid tumour - made from G cells
where does metastasis most often occur
peritoneum
lymph nodes (umbilicus or virchows now)
liver
what are paraneoplastic syndromes?
brown spots over the skin
polyarteritis nodosa
migratory thrombosis
risk factors?
FH smoking alcohol obese > with age
Intestinal type: male, H pylori, nitrate rich diet
symptoms?
Vague:
malaise
loss of appetite
dyspepsia
progression: epigastric pain nausea vomiting weight loss
Ulcers:
anaemia
haematemesis
melena
Acanthosis nigricans
Sister Mary Joseph sign
Trousers sign (virchows node)
Dysphagia
Diagnosis?
Made with endoscopy to visualise + biopsy
X ray with barium
Abdo-pelvic CT
Treatment?
Surgery - curative or palliative
overall survival rate?
