what is alcohol related fatty liver disease
A build up of fat in the liver due to drinking. this can reverse in 2 weeks if drinking is stopped.
what is alcoholic hepatitis
inflammation of the liver. associated with alcoholics and binge drinking.
mild hepatitis can be reversed with permanent stopping of drinking
what is cirrhosis
the liver is replaced with scar tissue
irreversible.
stopping drinking can prevent It from worsening, continuing to drink has a very poor prognosis.
signs of liver disease?
jaundice hepatomegaly spinder naevi palmar erythema gynaecomastia bruising ascites caput medusae asterixis
general management?
alcohol abstinence
thiamine supplement
steroids
liver transplant - MUST be 3 months abstinence from alcohol
