Question 1

Test for hydrogen

Answer 1

Collect gas in a test tube. Place a lot splint into the test tube. Hydrogen will burn with a squeaky pop

Question 2

Test for oxygen

Answer 2

Collect the gas in a test tube. Light a splint. Blow out the splint. Insert the glowing splint into the test tube. Oxygen will relight the glowing splint

Question 3

Test for carbon dioxide

Answer 3

Bubble the gas through limewater. Carbon dioxide will turn the limewater milky/ cloudy white

Question 4

Test for chlorine

Answer 4

Place damp blue litmus into the test tube. Chlorine will initially turn the litmus red as its acidic but will then bleach the litmus white
