Garage Door Flashcards
Drum
Piece mounted at the top of the garage door when the cables wind up into. Prevents cables from getting tangled when the door is opening
Extension Springs
They are aligned horizontally above the track. These provide additional support to the garage door. There are different types that depend on the garage door size
Hinge
Piece that connects each panel/section of the garage door to each other, They allow for the sections to separate and move individually as the garage door is sliding open or closed.
Horizontal Track
Track that rollers run along the ceiling of the garage
Horizontal/Vertical Reinforcement
Brackets and struts that help strengthen the garage door. This is especially necessary for larger garage doors that have more surface area or regions that have storms with high winds that make the door more prone to buckling or damage
Motor Unit
Motorized device that opens and closed garage doors that is controlled by switches on the garage wall or with a remote
Rollers
The wheels connected to the garage door that “roll” through the tracks when the garage is opening or closing
Safety Reversing Sensor
Unit towards the bottom that sends an infrared beam of light across through the path of where the garage door will be shut. It detects for anything in its path . If beam is interrupted by an object or motion then the door will stop closing and open back up (prevents damage and injury)
Torsion Spring
Spring that twists where a force (torque) is exerted to help the garage door raise; therefore, putting less strain on the motor. When closing the garage door, the spring winds back up
Vertical Track
Potion that rollers run on from the floor to the ceiling
Weather Strips
Rubber or vinyl material placed along the bottom of the garage door or around the edges to fill gaps which help prevent rain, snow, cold/hot air and even bugs from getting into the garage
