A
Persona involved in a sporting event influences a result in order to win a bet. Often officials or players are bribed into changing the course of an event to receive a cut of winnings

A
When a player is involved in betting in a sport which is illegal according to NGB e.g. Ivan Toney

Spot fixing
A
Carrying a pre-determined action during a specific part of a sporting event in order to win a bet.
E.g. a cricketer purposely bowling a no ball on the 2nd ball of the 5th over.

How is match fixing ruining sports?
A
- Negative impact on rep of sport
- Sponsorship deals likely to be terminated if an entity (team,player etc) is involved in a scandal
- NGBs can lose credibility if they fail to deal with it

Pros of gambling on sport
A
- Financial benefits to those involved if successful
- Offer big sponsorship deals
- Adds excitement

Negatives of gambling on sports
A
- Can cause corruption in sport e.g. match fixing
- Players can develop gambling addictions
- Growing volume of gambling sponsors which promotes a negative image
- Rise in illegal betting in sport e.g. Ivan Toney
