Gender
Much more female participation at recreational and elite level. Large TV audiences watching female sports. Allowed more elite female athletes to complete female/ More female role models, pundits etc
Law and Order
More laws to make sport fairer and safer. People who cheat now face more stringent bans. Hooligans get banned from grounds and passport taken.
Equality laws - Women memberships have to be same as mens - used to have limited access.
Social Class
Amateurism and Professionalism has been diluted. Sports are much less associated with certain classes. Some sports are still affected by access - expense and social elitism in clubs. Rate of participation for those aged 16 or over is greater for higher socio-economic groups then those from lower.
Education
Schools offer wide range of sporting opportunities. Students have greater opportunity to study PE or enter careers such as Sports Psychology or Physiotherapy.
Availability of time and money
Flexible working patterns and movement away from manual labour means people have more time to participate. Improved equipment and facilities has also increase as government and councils aim to improve populations health.
Transport
Continued to improve as time passed, rail links, motorways, cheap air fares.
Spectators now frequently travel abroad to follow their team.
Also improved experience for elite athletes with reduced travel times, which allowed more time for training
