Lose friendships if a team sport, lose respect, lose sponsorships, could be banned and thus can’t compete. However if not caught you can win more and subsequently earn more money
Consequences of using drugs on sport
Lose reputation (cycling), less income, less audience, values of sport tarnished
How is doping being dealt with?
WADA carries out random drug sampling after pro competitions. Lab testing techniques to detect illegal use are developing. Education of negative effects to athletes
Strategies to deal with doping
- Stricter punishments - Life bans, loss of medals etc
- Improved testing - stricter, random, more regular testing.
- Use of role models - Encourage drug free sport, name and shame cheats
