Event 1: Gain Attention
Teacher says: “We are going to:
- Identify the parts of a standard job application.
- Complete a job application.”
Event 2: Inform of Objectives
Teacher says: “Who can tell me what we learned in our previous session on finding part-time summer job opportunities?”
Event 3: Recall prior learning
Teacher says/shows: “Here’s a job application in it’s standard format. I’ve highlighted the parts: applicant info, education, experience, references.
The guidelines for this application are: legible writing, complete words, use of n/a, etc.”
Event 4: Present material
Teacher says/shows: “Here’s are some completed job apps, some good/bad ones. Please identify some problems.”
Event 5: Provide Guidance
Teacher presents: “Here’s a sample job app, please complete it in class.”
Event 6: Elicit Performance
Teacher says: “1. Get in groups and cross-check your applications.
2. Provide critique (think aloud) of some selected applications, high-lighting correct components and areas for improvement.”
Event 7: Provide feedback
Teacher says: “We’ll now take a test/quiz to check our knowledge of job applications.”
Event 8: Assess Performance
Teacher says: “Here’s a job application help sheet that you’ll fill out now. Use this when you need to fill out a job application!”
