What is post event discussion?
A conversation between co-witnesses or multiple interviews with an eyewitness after a crime has taken place
What did Gabbert aim to do?
To investigate the effects of post event discussion on the accuracy of eyewitness testimony
What was the procedure?
Pps put in pairs, each partner watched a different video of the same event which included certain items that are unique to each video. Pairs in one conditon encouraged to discuss the event before they individual recalled the information form the video they watched
What were the findings of the study?
71% of the witnesses encouraged to discuss the event in their pairs went on to mistakenly recall items that they had aquired during the discussion, not for viewing their video of the event
What was the conclusion?
Post event discussion can introduce error to eye witness testimony
