Q

Flat plate slab

A

simplest form of concrete slab, stays same thickness and when stripped no special features in soffit. its spans from support to support and relies only on its own strength and rebar to hold it up.

Q

Flat slab

A

columns that hold up this slab will have column capital or drop panels or both to help with shear forces.

Q

One way ribbed slab

A

uses a series of metal pans secured end to end to the slab deck to create joists. pored all at once and can be quite thin

Difference between falsework and formwork.

A

falsework supports formwork and formwork moulds fresh concrete

Q

Single vertical shore

A

single vertical shore is a single 4x4 that is cut to fit and used as a vertical support. normally cut 1- 1.5 inches shy to allow for wooden wedges.

15
Q

Slenderness ratio

A

this is when the shore may require one or two horizontal bracings.

should not exceed 1:50 where 1 is the proportional to minimum cross sectional dimension and 50 is the unsupported height.

EXAMPLE: shoring up 18 feet. shores are rough cut 4x4s. convert feet to inches and then devide by 50
18x12=216

216/50= 4.32 4.32 is greater then the smallest dimension of the post (4x4 so 4) therefor you need lateral support

16
Q

Adjustable wooden shores

A

wooden shores that have jacks on the bottom that can go up or down.

17
Q

Ellis clamp

A

two wooden shores can be joined by ellis clamps.

18
Q

Steel shore

A

often telescopic and used as part of falsework. head of shore is used to accommodate stringer and has a adjustable shore jack.

19
Q

Scaffold shoring

A

Heavy duty and economical because of speed.

Engineer must approve design

20
Q

Beams bottom (wood forwork)

A

either T shore or double post shore
