What are the areas you feel should be focused on in Critical Care over the next 5 years?
1) Retention of skilled staff and staff training
2) Establishment of 7 days a week AHP workforce
3) Integration of patient reported outcomes and feedback into delivery of patient care in ICU.
4) Incorporation of ACCPs
5) Collaboration with allied specialities:
i) front end of hospital (A&E, AMU, enhanced care areas, outreach)
ii) end of life care and discharge planning and rehabilitation
What are the challenges in Critical Care over the next 5 years?

What are the main challenges to the Critical Care department?
1) Service spec (not meeting GPICS)
GIRFT - readmissions, delayed discharges, discharges home
2) Staff retention and wellbeing - in-house trained counsellor, wellbeing lead, PNAs and development, training and promotion opportunities (SILS, research, ACCP, outreach, unit coordinator) & succession planning.
3) Recruitment and funding for AHPs, psychologists & pharmacists 7/7
4) Integration of ACCPs - a role recommended in NHS long term plan, GIRFT report and recognised as positive to training by FICM RA report 2021.
What will you bring to the ICU department and the hospital?
1) Evolution of rehabilitation and follow-up services.
2) Integration of patient and family feedback with follow-up and QI within critical care.
3) Establishment of ACCPs in Whiston ICU.
4) Collaboration of Critical Care with other hospital departments. Specifically the acute admissions and enhanced care and discharge planning. Enabling best practice tariff integration into Critical Care.
