Cryptococcosis

A

Infectious agent: Cryptococcous neoformans
Associated animals: Pigeons
Route of transimmission: shed in droppings and transmitted to humans by inhalation of aerosols from contaminated environment
symptoms: most infections are asymptomatic but febrile illness with respiratory or CNS may occur in immunocompromised people

Dermatophytosis or ringworm

A

Infectious species: Microsporum species, Trichophyton species, and epidermophyton species
Associated animals: cats, dogs, cattle, sheep, goats, horses, hedgehogs, rodents, rabbits
Route of transmissions: direct contact with infected animals or indirect contact with contaminated areas/objects
Symptoms: ring shaped skin lesions. Can progress to severe disseminated infection in immunocrompsied

Sporotrichosis

A

Infectious species: Sporothrix basiliensis
Associated animals: cats
Route of transmission: Cat bites, scratches, direct contact with infected cats, inhalation of aerosols when cats cough or sneeze
Symptoms: cutaneous lesions, pulmonary disease. Disseminated disease may occur in immunocompromised
