What are common Fungal infections?
Oral thrush
Vulval or vaginal thrush
tinea; capatis, corporal,cruris and pedis
Fungal nail infection (tinea ungium)
What is topical treatment for fungal infection of body and groin and foot ?
Terbinafine 1% cream (children above 12 years of age)
Apply thinly to the affected area once or twice a day for up to 1–2 weeks.
Clotrimazole 1% cream
Apply to the affected area 2–3 times a day and continue for at least 4 weeks. A strip of cream about half a centimetre long is enough to treat an area about the size of the hand.
Miconazole 2% cream
Apply to the affected area twice a day continuing for 10 days after all skin lesions are healed.
Econazole 1% cream
Apply to the affected area twice a day and continue until all skin lesions are healed.
What is oral treatment for tinea copers/cruris(body and groin)?
For adults, prescribe terbinafine 250 mg once daily:
For 4 weeks for fungal infection of the body.
For 2–4 weeks for fungal infection of the groin. for 2-6 weeks for feet
itraconazole 100 mg once daily for 15 days, alternatively 200 mg once daily for 7 days
griseofulvin 500 mg daily. If necessary, increase to 1000 mg daily for severe infections for at least four weeks; reduce the dose when treatment response occurs.
How is fungal scalp infections topically treated?
Topical anti fungal treatment is off label indication.
Ketoconazole 2% shampoo is licensed for use in adults and young people aged 12 years and over.
Selenium sulfide 2.5% shampoo is licensed for use in adults and children aged 5 years and over.
What is oral treatment for fungal scalp infection?

What is treatment for fungal nail infection?
Amorolfine 5% nail lacquer:
Treatment should be continued for 6 months for fingernails and 9–12 months for toenails.
If there is Candida infection with associated paronychia, topical treatment should also be applied to the area of paronychia.
Advise the person to avoid cosmetic nail varnishes or artificial nails during treatment.
What are treatment options for oral thrush?
Nystatin
miconazole- oral gel

What are dosages for miconazole oral gel?
Children aged 4–24 months — 1.25 mL (1/4 measuring spoon) of gel applied four times a day after meals.
adults and children 2 yrs of age and older — 2.5 mL (1/2 measuring spoon) of gel applied four times a day after meals.
what is counselling points for miconazole oral gel for parents administering to children?
Each dose should be divided into smaller portions, and the gel should be applied to the affected area(s) with a clean finger.
The gel should not be applied to the back of the throat due to possible choking.
What is licensed dose for nystatin for the prevention and treatment of candidal infections of the oral cavity, oesophagus, and intestinal tract?
1ml (100,000 units) dropped into the mouth four times a day, usually for 7 days.
What are counselling points for nystatin?
Nystatin should be taken after food or drink.
The suspension should be kept in contact with the affected areas for as long as possible.
The treatment should be continued for 48 hours after lesions have resolved.
