They provide basis for other skills
They help us follow a healthy active lifestyle
Running
Developed during toddler years - basis for many activities
Analysed through technique - style of running
Throwing
Crucial in activities like athletics
Proper technique will avoid injury and increase distance thrown
Jumping
Jumping is an event in its own right
Jumping is also a requirement for many other events/activities
Kicking
Correct technique & accuracy are the most important elements
Kicking is important in football and rugby at a basic passing level up to curling the ball
Catching
This is important for catching an opponent out
Playground activities help kids develop different catching techniques
Hitting
Hitting involves a hitting imolement - bat/racket and needs good coordination
How do you assess running?
Through timing often over a specific distance
How do you assess throwing?
Measuring the distance of the throwing object
How do you assess jumping?
Measuring the height/distance of the jump
Assessing the style of the jump
How do you assess kicking?
This is assessed by checking the accuracy of a kick as well as the distance/power
How do you assess catching?
Whether the ball/object is caught and not dropped more often than not
How do you assess hitting?
Hitting is assessed by the distance and accuracy of a hit - it’s an important part of contact activities
