What is the cardiovascular system?
The transport of oxygen in blood around the body
What does the cariovascular system contain?
The heart
A netwrok of blood vessels
Tbe blood
What can a hbl do to the cardiovascular system?
Create more efficient capillaries that take up more oxygen
Make the heart less likely to become diseased
Create good circulation and more blood
What is muscular endurance?
The ability of the body to keep going without risk
What can a hbl do to mucsular endurance?
Increases the body’s aerobic potential allowing it to work for longer
The heart size may increase - hypertrophy
What is speed?
The ability of the body to move quickly
What might speed apply to?
The whole body or just parts of it - arm speed in cricket
What can a hbl do to the bodies speed?
Cause more efficient heart and lungs
More energy availlable to muscles to move fast
Muscles more efficient in producing energy
What is strength?
The ability of a muscle to exert force over a short period of time
What does strength depend on?
The size, number and coordination of muscles involved
What can a hbl do to the bodies strength?
Some types of exercise can enlarge the the bodies slow-twitch fibres
The muscles can enlarge (hypertrophy) causing anaerobic benefits
What is flexibility?
The range of movement that can happen around a joint
Flexibility allows us to..
Move quickly and effectively
Be less likely to become injured
Reach for objects more effectively
What can a hbd do to the bodies flexibility?
Allow our ligaments and supporting tissues to stretch further
The more the body stretches the further it can stretch
