Functional Organization of Perception Flashcards
The gray matter on either side of the spinal cord is divided into:
dorsal and ventral horns (posterior and anterior in humans)
Which horn in the spinal cord is responsible for sensory input and which one for motor output?
Input: Dorsal
Output: Ventral
What are the four levels of the spinal cord?
cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral
How is white and gray matter distributed over the four levels?
Few axons enter at sacral level
The most axons coming from the brain terminate at higher levels
-> Sacral level has much less white matter than grey, while the cervical level has more white than grey.
What is a central job of the Thalamus?
conveying information to the primary cortical motor areas.
-> It acts as a moderator, how much of which information goes to the cortex
Is the somatic sensory cortex located posterior or anterior to the central sulcus?
Posterior
The nuclei of the thalamus are classified in four main groups:
Anterior, Medial, Ventrolateral, Posterior
