Functional Anatomy of the Shoulder Flashcards
What bones make up the shoulder girdle?
Clavicle and the scapula
What joints are in the shoulder girdle?
Sternoclavicular Joint (SCJ), Acromioclavicular Joint (ACJ), Scapulothoracic Joint
What is the function of the shoulder girdle?
Connect the arm to the axial skeleton
What makes up the glenohumeral joint?
Synovial joint between: proximal humerus, scapular
What stabilises the shoulder?
Glenoid labrum (fibrocartilaginous rim), glenoid capsule, superior/middle/inferior glenohumeral ligaments, rotator cuff muscles
What muscles make up the rotator cuff?
Teres minor, Subscapularis, Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus
What are the extra-capsular ligaments that connect the scapular and the clavicle?
Coracoacromial, coracoclavicular ligaments
In the space between the acromion and the head of the humerus what is found?
Subacromial Bursa - Rotator Cuff Tendons - Capsule - Long Head of Biceps
What is the function of the subacromial bursa
found where 2 body parts move against one another and there is no joint to reduce the friction
What muscles allow abduction?
0°-15° Supraspinatus. 15°-90° Deltoid. >90° Upper Trapezius, Serratus Anterior
What muscles allow adduction?
Pectoralis Major, Latissimus Dorsi, Teres Major
What muscles allow flexion?
Anterior Fibres Deltoid, Pectoralis Major, Coracobrachialis, Biceps Brachii
What muscles allow extension?
Deltoid, latissimus dorsi, teres major
What muscles allow internal rotation?
Subscapularis, teres major, pect major, lattisimus dorsi
What muscles allow external rotation?
Infraspinatus, teres minor
