duration and Frequency of saunas
- weekly
- takes 2 hours only 1/2 hour is spent in

Types of baths
- whirlpool
- epsom salt
- full body hot or contrast
- foot baths
- sitz baths
Baths incorporate the water properties of
- capacity
- conductivity
- hydrostatic pressure
- buoyancy
- water resistance
- solubility
bath temperature
36-38 C
-exception of epsom salts 39-44
Benefits of a cold rinse
- warm body up quicker
- stay warm longer
- adapt better to temp changes
Whirlpool benefits
- increase overall circulation due to resistance and heat
- Relaxes muscles and decreases pain
- softens tissue
- cleans and stimulates wound healing
Uses of whirlpools
- To ease muscle spasms and stiffness
- Overall nervous tension
- Soothing on amputations
- Subacute to chronic conditions
- Arthritis joints
- Ulcers or weeping sores
- Peripheral nerve injuries
Contraindications of whirlpools
- young/elderly less intense temp/duration
- vascular disorders- different temp
- cardiac problems -water below heart
- high or low bp
- open, weeping wounds - avoid the pressure
use of epsom salt baths
-increase circulation, and promote detoxification
Benefits of epsom salt baths
- High magnesium content promotes the release of lactic acid from the muscle tissue
- Heat of water increases blood flow to skin, resulting in waste removal
- Increased metabolism and sweating leads to increase illumination and detoxification
