Fuel System Flashcards
The F-16 has ___ internal tanks ___ external tanks, ___ reservoir tanks that _____, and ____ remaining internal tanks that feed the ______
7 internal ; 3 external ; 2 reservoir feed the engine ; 5 remaining that feed the reservoirs
Left/AFT tank system includes:
aft tank reservoir (480 lbs)
a-1 tank (2330 lbs)
left internal tank (550 lbs)
3360 lbs total
Right/Forward tank system includes:
forward tank reservoir (480 lbs) f-1 tank f-2 tank (f-1 and f-2 = 2770 lbs) right internal tank (550 lbs) 3800 lbs total
left/aft and right/forward needle does not include
internal wing fuel
external tank capacity (L/R)
centerline tank capacity
2420 lbs - external
1890 lbs - centerline
6730 lbs total
total fuel capacities
13890 lbs - total total fuselage-6060lbs internal wings-1100lbs centerline tank-1890lbs external wings-4840lbs
FUEL TEST POSITION:
AL/FR go to 2000 +/-100lbs
Totalizer goes to 6000 +/-100lbs
both caution lights illuminate
4 reasons to be in NORM
easy to monitor (forward normally 0-600 lbs greater than aft tank)
AL/FR needles provide early indication of trapped fuel (if needle moves before totalizer is 6000 lbs - fuel is trapped)
activated automatic forward fuel transfer system
HUD Bingo based on fuselage fuel, not total fuel
FUEL LOW caution light
AFT FUEL LOW <250lbs
FWD FUEL LOW<400 LBS
independent of fuel quantity indicating system
Home Fuel Warning when:
predicted fuel quantity at home point <800 lbs
when this happens - 4 modes from the CRUS 5 page
TRP FUEL and FUEL flash in HUD when 5 conditions occur
FUEL QTY SEL knob in NORM
No AR for 30-90 seconds
fuselage fuel 500lbs less than fuselage capacity for 30 seconds
total fuel at least 500 lbs greater than fuselage fuel for 30 seconds
fuel flow <18,000 pph for 30 seconds
False TRP FUEL may occur if:
fuel leak exceeds transfer rate of external tanks
prolonged AB use
receiving partial fuel load during AR with external tank
primary method for fuel transfer
siphoning - caused by lower pressure in tanks receiving fuel
____ air pressurizes external fuel tanks
ECS (environmental control system) and powers the air ejector pumps
fuel flow
left external - left internal - A-1
right external - right internal - F-1 - F-2
