Engine Ops Flashcards
Engine Preflight
EMS BIT ball go-no go indicator (should be black) Intake Exhaust precharges on JFS bottles/accumulators Fluid leaks
Verify list covers ______ switches
critical switches: FUEL MASTER - MASTER gaurd down ENG FEED - NORM EPU - NORM guard down ENG CONT - PRI guard down ENG CONT - NORM guard down Throttle - OFF LD Hangle - DN and locked HOOK - UP MASTER ARM - OFF AIR SOURCE - NORM Fod check
Engine Start
JFS START 2 (<30 seconds, Green RUN light, RPM increase)
At ~18% SEC light goes off
JFS RUN light illuminated for one minute
THROTTLE - IDLE (SEC light on for about 3 seconds during DEEC/SEC test)
Engine light-off in <20 seconds (ignition rumble, FTIT increase, goe to idle by itself)
>25% rpm - HYD/OIL PRESS should not go off before (ABORT if it turns off early)
JFS shuts off at 50%
55% - ENGINE warning light off, STBY GEN light off – 10 seconds later main gen on-line MAIN GEN light off
After Start Engine Check after engine stabilizes at idle:
HYD/OIL PRESS light - OFF (if not, increase rpm 2-3% to exinguish)
Fuel Flow - stabilize 500-1500 pph
Oil pressure - at least 15%
Nozzle - 70-95% open
RPM - 60-76%
FTIT - <575*
Hydraulic Pressure - 2850-3250
Throttle cutoff release - will not shutdown engine
confirm with Crew Chief - 6 fuel pump lights on, JFS doors closed
SEC Check
ENG CONT switch - SEC Nozzle <5% SEC Caution light - ON advance throttle - verify response then idle ENG CONT switch - PRI guard down Nozzle 70-95% SEC Caution light - OFF
Anti-Ice Check
Anti-ice on for engine start
stabilize engine at idle for 1 minute with ANTI ICE ON with no PFLs
Anti-ice switch OFF - No PFLs
Monitor FTIT with ANTI ICE - OFF
FTIT must decrease 10*C within 15 seconds or abort
ANTI-ICE switch - AUTO/ON as required
Run-up check (8-6-4-4-2 check)
Note oil pressure at idle RPM ~80% FTIT ~600* Oil Pressure ~40* Fuel Flow 3500-4500 pph Nozzle position ~20%
MIL Power Takeoff
Oil Pressure 30-80 psi (routine 40-55 psi - must rise 15 psi from idle)
RPM 89-94% (routine 90-92%)
Nozzle <30% (routine 5-20%)
FTIT 890-965*
AB Takeoff
5 AB Stages Nozzle - 65-75% Oil Pressure - 30-80 psi FTIT - 890-965* RPM - 94% max
Airspeed limits
800 KIAS until 2.05 Mach
OIL: ____ psi increase idle-to-Mil below __,000’
15 psi increase below 35,000’
Maintain throttle at ____ while supersonic
MIL
idle rpm is constant up to 0.84 mach and increases until it reaches _____ at ~1.4 mach
reaches MIL Power RPM
Basic 11* AOA Airspeed and add ___ Kts per 1000 lbs fuel/stores weight above zero fuel
C - 137 Kts (11) (129Kts at 13)
D - 140 Kts (11) (132Kts at 13)
Oil Scavenge and Shutdown
Advance throttle to 75-78% rpm for 5-10 seconds
return to idle for 1-2 seconds
Move to OFF
