Fuel Flashcards
What is the purpose of the surge bay?
Used for main tank venting and fuel recovery to maintain positive pressure to the main tank. Fuel that flows into the surge bay during flight is siphoned back in to the main tank.
What are the three sections of the fuel tank?
Main tank, Surge bay and Collector Bay
What do the NACA vents do?
Allows for fuel tank venting via internal standpipes in the surge bay
What is the purpose of the main tank?
To store the gas and keep the collector bay full.
What is the max fuel imbalance (in flight only)?
600 lbs
What is the max fuel tank capacity?
5,862 lbs per tank
11,724 lbs total
How is the collector bay kept full?
4 scavenge pumps per tank
1 primary ejector pump per tank
1 115vAC Auxiliary Fuel Pump
One-way flapper valves at bottom wall of collection bay
How is the fuel tank quantity determined?
Nine capacitance type fuel probes send data to a fuel quantity computer which displays the quantity in digital format on the bottom of the ED.
When will the fuel low caution light come on?
Less than 305 lbs in the collector bay
The MFD fuel page shows the ambient temperature of the fuel taken from the _______________.
Left collector bay
What is needed to transfer fuel from one tank to the other?
The Auxiliary fuel pumps which require AC power. Moving the transfer switch to LOW 1 or LOW 2 automatically turns on the opposite AC pump to transfer fuel.
What does the Fuel Metering Unit do?
Sends fuel to the engine based on inputs from the FADEC. Provides motive flow for primary and scavenge ejector pumps.
