Automatic Flight Flashcards
The Flight Guidance Modules provide all the necessary data processing for:
- Flight Director Commands
- YD and AP actuator commands
- Pitch Trim commands
What components does the AFCS consist of?
1 Flight Guidance Control Panel
2 Flight Guidance Modules
1 Yaw Damper Actuator Unit
2 Autopilot Actuator Units
Which FGM provides the commands to the YD and AP actuators?
FGM 1 provides the commands while FGM 2 monitors the commands and the performance of the actuators. Both are capable of processing FD commands and both FGM’s are needed for AP and YD functions.
What happens if you press the HSI select push button while the AP is engaged?
- Clears all active and armed lateral and vertical FD commands
- FD bars remain
- Autopilot reverts to basic mode (pitch/roll hold)
What happens if you press the HSI SEL push button while the autopilot is NOT engaged?
- Clears all active and armed lateral and vertical FD commands
- Removes FD command bar
- No effect on YD/AP engagement
What happens when you press the STBY push button?
- If the autopilot is engaged it will clear all active and armed lateral and vertical commands and revert to basic mode
- If the autopilot is NOT engaged it will clear all active and armed lateral and vertical commands and remove the FD command bars
- Clears FD abnormal messages
- No effect on YD/AP engagement
What does the YD button do?
Engages the YD. Pressing it a second time will disengage the YD and the AP if it was engaged.
What does the AP button do?
Engages the AP and YD if it was not already engaged. Pressing the button again disengages the autopilot but will leave the YD engaged.
What happens if a Flight Guidance Module fails?
FGM 1 is normally the master and FGM 2 the slave. Either FGM can process flight director commands but both are needed for auto pilot operation.
How does the TCS button work?
Temporarily disables the auto pilot servos to allow the pilot to override the autopilot. While the TCS button is held down the FD commands are removed.
What happens when you press the GA buttons?
AP disconnects
FD commands 10° pitch up and wings level
All armed FD modes are disarmed
GA and WINGS LVL displayed on the PFD
- Must select a vertical FD mode to get out of GA mode (VS, IAS or PITCH)
Autopilot engagement is inhibited for pitch angles greater than ___ and roll angles greater than ____ .
Pitch: +/- 20°
Roll: +/- 45°
What are the four ways to disengage the Autopilot?
- Red push button on the control yoke
- Go around button on the power levers
- Operating the trim switch on the control yoke
- Pressing the AP push button on the Flight Guidance Control Panel
What are the two functions of the AP pitch trim?
- Automatic trim when the autopilot is engaged.
- Flap Auto Pitch Trim when the autopilot is NOT engaged.
What speed is the cutoff between fast and slow pitch trim speed?
The pitch trim operates at fast speed for CAS below 180 knots
The pitch trim operates at slow speed for CAS above 180 knots
