Q

How are engine fires extinguished?

A

There are two cylindrical Halon fire bottles located in the left wing root. Either bottle is capable of being fired into the left or right engine, or both bottles may be fired into the same engine.

15
Q

How many smoke detectors are there on the airplane?

A

4 total, one in the forward lavatory, one in the forward cargo bin above the door, two in the aft baggage compartment. The lavatory smoke detector will not give any indication in the cockpit if it detects smoke.

16
Q

How many fire extinguishing bottles are there for the cargo compartments and lavatory?

A

There are three total for the cargo compartments. The Forward bin has a High Rate bottle, the Aft bin has a High Rate Bottle and a Low Rate Bottle which is shared with the forward bin.

The lavatory has its own fire protection bottle located in the ceiling of the trash compartment. It is activated by a thermal wax plug that melts when a certain temperature is reached.

17
Q

What happens when you press the forward baggage compartment extinguish switch?

A

The fwd high rate bottle and the low rate bottle are both discharged immediately. The aft bottle low light will not illuminate for approximately 45 minutes after it is discharged. This indicates the bottle is fully depleted.

18
Q

What are the indications for a Forward Cargo Compartment fire?

A

MASTER WARNING
SMOKE warning light
FWD BTL ARM light
SMOKE/EXTG light

19
Q

What are the indications for an Aft Cargo Compartment fire?

A
MASTER WARNING
SMOKE warning light
AFT BTL ARM light
SMOKE/EXTG light
Inlet vent closed light
Outlet vent closed light
20
Q

What happens when you press the Aft SMOKE/EXTG light?

A

The High Rate bottle discharges and the BTL LOW light will illuminate immediately. The Low Rate bottle will discharge approximately 7 minutes later and will last for 45 minutes.

21
Q

Why are there two test positions for the Aft Fire Detector System?

A

There are two smoke detectors.
