Q

Wing Fuel Tanks

A

Each wing:
(5) Compartments
(6) Drains
NACA vents - provide positive internal pressure and protects against under/over-pressurization. Allows vapors and air to escape during refueling; Air to enter as fuel consumed.
(1) Hopper tank
(2) Boost pumps
Temp Probe - Left Hopper only

Baffle ribs with flapper valves (on bottom of ribs) - allow fuel to flow through to ea compartment w/o much slushing and not backward.
Any fuel below flapper valves moves towards hoppers through “weep holes”

Q

What is the Plenum?

A

“Vent Tank”
Catches fuel during transient maneuvers. Drawn back into to the tank when back at stable flight.
Allows for 2% fuel expansion.

Should be drained of fuel prior to any takeoff.

Hopper Tanks

A

Capacity = 190 gal / 1,283 lb

Each has:
(3) Flapper valves - keep tank full (gravity)
(2) Boost pumps (electric)
(1) Ejector pump - motive flow from fuel boost pump pressure to draw fuel from tanks into hopper @ 4,450 lb/hr
Hydraulic fluid-to-Fuel Heat Exchanger

15
Q

During pressure fueling, the FQSC (fuel qty signal conditioner) monitors intertank quantities. What happens if an imbalance of 500 lb occurs?

A

FQSC interrupts fueling to the heavy side until imbalance is reduced to 100 lb
