Fuel Flashcards
Fuel Capacity
29,500 lb (4,370 gal)
Wing Fuel Tanks
Each wing:
(5) Compartments
(6) Drains
NACA vents - provide positive internal pressure and protects against under/over-pressurization. Allows vapors and air to escape during refueling; Air to enter as fuel consumed.
(1) Hopper tank
(2) Boost pumps
Temp Probe - Left Hopper only
Baffle ribs with flapper valves (on bottom of ribs) - allow fuel to flow through to ea compartment w/o much slushing and not backward.
Any fuel below flapper valves moves towards hoppers through “weep holes”
What is the Plenum?
“Vent Tank”
Catches fuel during transient maneuvers. Drawn back into to the tank when back at stable flight.
Allows for 2% fuel expansion.
Should be drained of fuel prior to any takeoff.
Hopper Tanks
Capacity = 190 gal / 1,283 lb
Each has:
(3) Flapper valves - keep tank full (gravity)
(2) Boost pumps (electric)
(1) Ejector pump - motive flow from fuel boost pump pressure to draw fuel from tanks into hopper @ 4,450 lb/hr
Hydraulic fluid-to-Fuel Heat Exchanger
Which hopper has the APU fuel supply line?
Left.
Which hopper has the fuel tank temperature sensor?
Left
A fuel quantity system test results in…?
7000-7000-14000 in amber inverse video on all synoptic pages displaying fuel info and
amber “L-R FUEL LEVEL LOW” CAS
How do you check the quantity of fuel being added to the aircraft?
Remote fuel panel
Fuel truck
If auto refueling has been accomplished since the last flight you should check that…?
Auto refuel switch on the Remote Refueling Panel is selected off
On E-Batts, how can the pilot confirm the fuel quantity?
MCDU 1
How do you use the remote fuel panel?
Set desired fuel quantity
Select AUTO
* displays next to amount
Which manual describes FUELING PROCEDURES?
AOM Chp 9 Handling and Servicing
How do you transfer fuel from tank to tank?
Intertank valve
L ESS DC Bus
How do you balance fuel using the inter tank valve?
Rotate Rudder Trim in direction of heavy wing, resulting in 1/2 trapezoid displacement
Open Intertank Valve
During pressure fueling, the FQSC (fuel qty signal conditioner) monitors intertank quantities. What happens if an imbalance of 500 lb occurs?
FQSC interrupts fueling to the heavy side until imbalance is reduced to 100 lb
