Preconventional level
The stage in moral development where their moral judgement is made on the perceived consequences of behavior.
Has two stages

Preconventional stages
- Obedience and punishment orientation:
Good behavior is only behavior that avoids punishment by external authority. - Instrumental purpose orientation: behavior serves persons needs or interest.
Conventional level
Individuals in this level recognize the that the purpose of social rules is to preserve the social order and ensure harmonious relationships among people
Conventional stage 1
- Good boy orientation:
Conformity with rules and regulations is important b/c they feel the need to be seen as a good boy. The need to do the right thing in front of others
Conventional stage 2
2.authority or law and order orientation:
Rules must be obeyed and applied evenhandedly because they are needed for the orderly functioning society. It is his duty.
Post conventional level
Apply their own moral standards or principles rather than relying on those of authority figures. When laws are found as unjust, a post conventional moral person is bound to disobey them
Post conventional stage 1,
- Social contract orientation:
Involves the belief that laws are based on mutual agreement among members of a society, but are not infallible. Laws can be opened to question.
Post conventional stage 2
- Universal ethical principles:
Underlying set, self chosen, abstract ethical principles that serve as a guiding framework for moral judgement. It becomes immoral to them if they follow unjust laws.
Sensorimotor stage
Child uses its senses and developing motor skills to explore and act upon the world and begins to develop a concept of object permanence. Cognitive development.
Formal operational stage
Child becomes capable of abstract thinking. Formal operations is the level of full cognitive maturity.
Preoperational stage
Child acquires the ability to use language to symbolize objects and actions in words(symbolic representation). But the childs thinking is limited by egocentrism, animistic thought, centrations, and irreversibility
Concrete operational stage (7-11)
Child capable of performing simple logical operations as long as it is tied to concrete problems . Acquisition of conservation.
