Binocular cues
Visual cues requiring both eyes largely for depth perception. An example of this is retinal disparity. Retinal disparity is a binocular cue used to perceive depth between two near objects by comparing the different images from both retinas. Each eye receives different images because they are ~2.5 inches apart.
Ex thtr: seeing the end of the elevated stage and not falling off
Positive reinforcement
A positive reinforcement is any stimulus that when presented after a response, strengthens that response.
Ex thtr: Saying a line on stage in front of the audience in a funny voice, they laugh, so you use this funny voice again in your next line
Selective attention
the focusing of conscious awareness on a particular stimulus.
Ex thtr: focusing on your next line and you don’t notice a crew member trying to give you your cue
Acetylcholine
a compound which occurs throughout the nervous system, in which it functions as a neurotransmitter. It’s functions are enabling muscle action, learning, and memory.
Ex thtr: remembering your lines, walking across stage
Sensory adaption
diminished sensitivity as a consequence of constant stimulation.
Ex thtr: not feeling how uncomfortable your itchy costume is after wearing it for a few minutes
Cerebellum
The “little brain” at the rear of the brain stem. The cerebellum controls balance for walking and standing, and other complex motor functions.
ex thtr: balancing on stage
Observational learning
A form of cognitive learning where you learn by observing others also known as social learning.
ex thtr: watching an actor express themselves with their hands while saying their lines and you unconsciously do the same thing after them
